Join us in the Misty Mountains (locally known by the elves as the Smoky Mountains) at Rivendell (known locally as Montreat College) near Black Mountain, NC as we consider
"Foundation of the Worlds: Scripture's Influence on Lewis and Tolkien"
In 1950, C. S. Lewis published The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. In 1954 and 1955, J. R. R. Tolkien published the three volumes of his masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings. Neither the Narnia stories nor the tale of Middle-earth talk about prayer, the Bible, or going to church, yet they are profoundly Christian. As we celebrate major anniversaries of their publication, we will explore the place of biblical faith in the thought and writings of Lewis and Tolkien. our time.

Jason Staples is an assistant teaching professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at North Carolina State University. He is the author of The Idea of Israel in Second Temple Judaism (Cambridge University Press, 2021) and of Paul and the Resurrection of Israel (Cambridge University Press, 2023). He is currently completing a book on C. S. Lewis and Scripture.
Don King has just published Inkling, Historian, Soldier, and Brother: A Life of Warren Hamilton Lewis. He has also written a number of books about C. S. Lewis, Joy Davidman, and Ruth Pitter, including C. S. Lewis, Poet: The Legacy of His Poetic Impulse, Hunting the Unicorn: A Critical Biography of Ruth Pitter, and Yet One More Spring: A Critical Study of Joy Davidman.
Rebecca Poe Hays teaches Hebrew and Old Testament at Truett Seminary of Baylor University. She has just completed Reading Resilience in the Psalms: Trauma, Healing, and the Strength to Survive to be published by Oxford University Press. She is co-editor of C. S. Lewis Remembered.
Hal Poe has just finished a three-volume biography of C. S. Lewis which is published by Crossway. He is the author of twenty books that deal with how the gospel intersects culture; including C. S. Lewis Remembered and The Inklings of Oxford.
