God in the Whirlwind: A 10-Year Remembrance

Join Us For a 10-Year Remembrance

Join us Feb. 2, 2018, as we mark the 10-year anniversary of the Feb. 5, 2008, tornado that hit the Union campus. We will celebrate God's provision and faithfulness during that disaster.

Former administrators, students, community leaders and rescue workers will be in attendance.

Main Events for Feb. 2, 2018

Chapel

10 a.m. | Savage Chapel

  • Union's 15th president, Dr. David S. Dockery (current president of Trinity International University), will reflect on God's providence through the storm.
  • Dr. Kimberly Thornbury, former dean of students, will also share her testimony.

Campus Tours

1–3 p.m.

  • University Ambassadors will give tours of key changes that have happened on the campus since the tornado.

First Responder Recognition

1:30 p.m. | Bowld Gym

  • The Union community will honor first responders and EMS personnel who came to our aid in our time of need.

Community Worship Service

7 p.m. | West Jackson Baptist Church

  • Phil WickhamThe Union community gathers to remember the events through praise and worship. We'll hear testimonies from students and former administrator Dr. Gene C. Fant, Jr. (current president of North Greenville College). The service will conclude with a Phil Wickham concert.
  • The concert is now sold out.

Alumni Reception

9 p.m. | West Jackson Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall

  • After the worship service, we'll join together to reflect with alumni, faculty and staff who weathered the storm with us.
