SLA Job Skill Requirements

New and Returning SLAs
Prerequisites for hiring  include:

Approval for Workship or College Work Study programs through The Financial Aid office.  Contact Jason Tipton at ext. 5407.

Successful completion of CSC105 Survey of Microcomputing Applications or equivalent experience.

Good Academic Standing GPA 2.00.

Familiarity of PC and Mac hardware and software. Click here to go to  the SLA Handbook (p. 10) for the software listing.  (Note:  Acrobat Reader 3.0 or higher must be installed on your computer to read the handbook!)

Keep in mind that the primary role of the SLA is to be a helper!  It is vital that you enjoy helping others.  Additionally, good work ethics such  as being dependable,  trustworthy, discreet, polite, respectful, attentive, personable, prompt,  and responsible are required.  You should also be willing to follow instructions from management and complete duties as assigned in a timely manner.

SLA Handbook

This handbook touches on a major portion of the things related to working as a Student Lab Assistant.  Read it initially upon being hired, then periodically when you need a refresher on procedures and policies.
