President
Lauren Butler is the president of the Delta-Psi chapter. She is a senior history major with a minor in political science.
Initiated into Phi Alpha Theta in February 2018, she has faithfully taken part in Delta-Psi chapter activities ever since, one of which was the presentation of a
paper at the Arkansas Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference in April 2018. While studying at Oxford University during the fall of 2017, she was a member of the
Oxford University History Society and the Oxford University Dancesport Club. Besides Phi Alpha Theta, she has been involved with several on-campus groups at
Union, including the Alliance Francophone, Pi Sigma Alpha, the Rutledge Honorary History Club, and the university debate team. Butler is particularly
interested in international history, especially military history as it relates to covert operations and intelligence-gathering agencies. Her home is in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Vice President
Luke Sower serves as the vice president of Delta-Psi. He is a junior history major and a Spanish minor. A resident of Cedar Hill, Tennessee, he joined Phi Alpha Theta in February 2018. He won the first-place paper award at the Arkansas Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference in April 2018 as well as the top prize in Union's 2018 Dr. James Alex Baggett History Research Paper Competition. Since joining Phi Alpha Theta, he has participated in numerous Delta-Psi chapter undertakings. His historical areas of interest are European colonialism and Native American societies in Central and Latin America. Sower has served as a member of the Student Leadership at Barefoots Joe, a Student Ambassador in University Admissions, and an archives intern in the Logos Library. He is also enrolled in the UU Discipline-Specific Honors Program in History.
Secretary
Megan Ledbetter holds the post of secretary in the Delta-Psi chapter. She is a junior history major who lives in Columbia, Tennessee. Her favorite historical periods are the American Revolution, the early national period in America, and World War II. Since joining Phi Alpha Theta in February 2018, she has been very involved in Delta-Psi chapter endeavors, participating in community service projects, dinners, receptions, spirit days, and other events. She has also successfully completed the course requirements of the General Honors Program.
Senators
Katie Allison is one of the Delta-Psi chapter's two senators in Union University's Senate, the legislative branch of the school's Student Government Association. She is a junior history major with a political science minor. Since her induction into Phi Alpha Theta in February 2018, she has been a loyal attendee at Delta-Psi chapter events. Her home is in Ashville, North Carolina. Her historical areas of interest are the Cold War, women's history, and social history more broadly. Her on-campus memberships include the Rutledge Honorary History Club, Alpha Chi, and Residence Life. She has worked as an archives intern in the Logos Library, and she is currently enrolled in the Discipline-Specific Honors Program in History.
Alexandria Barger is the other Delta-Psi chapter senator in Union University's Senate. She is a resident of Millington, Tennessee, and a junior history major with a Spanish minor. Since her Phi Alpha Theta induction in February 2018, she has been an enthusiastic supporter of the work of the history honor society.
Faculty Advisor
Dr. Stephen Carls is in his 36th year as the faculty advisor to the Delta-Psi chapter. He served as national president of Phi Alpha Theta from 2014 to 2016. He has coordinated Tennessee Phi Alpha Theta regional conferences at Union three times - in 1991, 2003, and 2016. Under his leadership, the Delta-Psi chapter has won 16 straight Phi Alpha Theta Best Chapter Awards. He has attended all national Phi Alpha Theta biennial conventions since 2004 and has had Delta-Psi chapter members present papers at virtually all of those.
For many years, he has gone to Phi Alpha Theta regional conferences with Delta-Psi students who have presented papers at them.
