John Evans, a Welsh
native, has lectured on
Britten throughout the United
Kingdom and North America.
His many publications include
Benjamin Britten: Pictures
from a Life 1913–1976, A
Britten Source Book, The
Britten Companion and opera
handbooks on Peter Grimes, Gloriana, The Turn of
the Screw and Death in Venice. He was Research
Scholar at the Britten-Pears Library for five years until
he joined the BBC in 1985 as a music producer. In
1998 he assumed executive and artistic responsibility
for the BBC’s Orchestras and Choirs, and in 2000 he
became head of music policy and production. Evans
joined the Oregon Bach Festival in the summer of
2007 as President and Executive Director.
Marcia Swanston, mezzosoprano,
has performed with
major symphony orchestras
and opera companies
across Canada and the U.S.,
including the Canadian
Opera Company, Edmonton
Opera and Calgary Opera.
She completed studies in
England at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama,
followed by study at the Britten-Pears School. She
joined the faculty of Dalhousie University in 2001.
