JACKSON, Tenn. — Nov. 27, 2018 — The Union University Department of Music will present its annual Union Christmas Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4.
John Kinchen, chair of Union’s Department of Music, said the concert will tell the full story of Christ in music. It will include Scripture readings, congregational singing and performances by the university choirs; the Community Music Center children’s and youth choirs; and the Union orchestra and symphonic band.
“It’s a united presentation of all our groups, working together as a whole,” Kinchen said. “We’re joining our voices in a grand celebration of the birth of Christ.”
Kinchen said while Christmas events in the past have featured segments from each of Union’s performing groups, this year the choirs, orchestra and band will all perform together. Christian music artist Travis Cottrell will also join as a featured guest for a portion of the program.
“It’s a great event to begin the Christmas season,” Kinchen said. “It will have something for everybody.”
The music department will also present a modified program as a gift to the community Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. Both events are free and open to the public and will take place in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel on Union’s campus.
