The Search Committee and Board of Trustees of Union University welcome nominations and applications for its sixteenth President to lead the University into a new and engaged era of excellence, teaching, scholarship, research, partnership, and service. The President is the chief executive of the University and is responsible to the Board for the efficient and effective operation of the University. This position bears the responsibility to articulate and represent Union’s identity, mission, core values, and theological confession and to realize the University’s mission and goals. This position is the official representative and spokesperson for the University. The President will be expected to advance the long-valued, distinctive Christian intellectual tradition, which includes a Kingdom-focused university to serve both church and society.
Union University is a private, coeducational, liberal arts-based university offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The campus is located in Jackson, Tennessee, (80 miles northeast of Memphis) with additional campuses in Germantown and Hendersonville. Union University currently enrolls more than 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students from more than 40 states and 30 countries. The University stands as a national leader among colleges and universities in promoting a Christian worldview and a Christ-centered approach to education. Union is consistently ranked among the nation’s premier Christian universities and has been recognized as a top-tier institution each year since 1997 by U.S. News & World Report, which also recognized Union at a national level for undergraduate teaching excellence. The successful candidate must be a professing Christian, Baptist, and active member of a Southern Baptist church, who enthusiastically supports Union University’s Identity, Mission, and Core Values, and articulates a Christian worldview in their work and life.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an earned doctorate degree is required, as well as demonstrated administrative level leadership experience. This position commands a comprehensive, varied set of communication skills, including accomplished public communication and publication. Preference will be given to candidates possessing teaching and faculty experience, and also to candidates who have experience working with boards and foundations.
