Drs. Rosebrough and Singleton Author Important New Resource for Educators

April 20, 2012 - Executive and Associate Deans of Union University’s School of Education, Drs. Thomas Rosebrough and Ann Singleton authored an insightful resource for educators with Great Teaching Is More Than Academic which appears in the latest issue of The Department Chair published by Jossey-Bass. The resource was also shared as a presentation at the 29th Annual Academic Chairpersons Conference earlier this year.

Providing hope for learners, the pair acknowledge the complexities of the learning process while offering wisdom on the fact that learning takes time, relationships, and meaning rather than increased performance pressures which measure limited aspects of true learning outcomes. The authors advocate that teaching involves academic, social, and spiritual dimensions with purposes that connect to the student’s true identity – a perspective that provides a fresh, realistic, and wise alternative for educators and real hope for learners.

For more information on how to incorporate these transformational teaching concepts, please see Rosebrough and Leverett’s 2011 groundbreaking work, Transformational Teaching in the Information Age, published by ASCD. Dr. Ralph Leverett is University Professor of Special Education in Union University’s School of Education.
