Mike Bevis Successfully Defends Dissertation
April 6, 2004 - Mike Bevis, math teacher at Madison Academic Magnet School in Jackson, became the first doctoral student at Union to successfully defend a dissertation. His topic was, “The Effects of Teaching Styles and Learning Preference on Student Achievement in High School Algebra I.” He is pictured below with Dr. Thomas Rosebrough, Dean of Education and Human Studies, who presented him with a Union Ed. D. mug. The second photo shows him between Dr. Michele Atkins, Director of Graduate Programs in Education, and Dr. Rosebrough. Bevis’ dissertation committee consisted of Dr. Marilyn Kemp of Madison Academic Magnet School, Dr. Walton Padelford Acting Chair of the Business Department at Union, and Dr. Ralph Leverett.
