Media/Video Services

To support courses through the use of audio or video, faculty members can include media clips in existing MoodleRooms courses. Media clips (the audio/video files) are placed on the university's streaming server, which provides reliable and effective distribution of these resources.

A unique 'embed code' is required to link the learning management system (MoodleRooms) course to a specific media clip.

iTunesU

iTunes U is a collection of audio, video and courses produced by educational institutions around the world, and each of these resources can be downloaded to iOS devices for convenient consumption. This resource has become an indispensable educational destination for many around the world, and it is quickly becoming a stellar clearinghouse of knowledge.

Union maintains an account on iTunes U that allows the following:

• distribution of audio and video podcasts produced at Union
• distribution of courses developed for iOS devices by Union faculty members.

Web Conferencing

Union has contracted with WebEx.com to provide two web conferencing accounts for use by the university's employees. In its simplest form, a web conference allows someone in the conference to share what's on his or her computer screen while a group phone call allows discussion. A web conference time may be reserved by faculty or staff for instructional or meeting purposes.

More detail:

• A web conference allows individuals to interact without having to travel to a central location.
• This is facilitated by the use of document/application/presentation (screen) sharing with annotation capability, voice conferencing (inter-office/building/campus, computer-based, or toll-free calling), webcam video and white-boarding. It is possible for the presenter to conduct live online polls during a session, such as to gauge the attendees' understanding or interest in a topic.
• Control can be passed from the presenter to someone else in the conference.
• Sessions can be recorded for later viewing.
• Each of Union's two accounts can be used on a first-come, first-served basis, either as an 'on demand' session or as a previously schedule session. Each session can be attended by up to 25 dialup-connected individuals or 5-6 broadband-connected individuals at the same time. Each person must have a PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad or Blackberry connected to the internet in order to participate.
